10,000 Kilometers for Haiti

Keith Schuman and Pieter Schouwstra created 4Legs4Haiti on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, one day following the earthquake that devastated the small island nation of Haiti.

Keith and Pieter met four months prior to the earthquake, while traveling in South America. On the dawn of their departure North, while riding bicycles from Guayaquil, Ecuador to San Francisco, California, the events in Haiti were taking place. Already in search for an initiative, the two felt compelled to action by the footage they witnessed streaming across media channels from around the world. Across all continents, people have shown their compassion and have mobilized efforts to help the Haitian people in their recovery. Keith and Pieter have chosen to dedicate their journey to Haiti and help its people rebuild their nation by raising money along their ride.

On 4Legs4Haiti.com you can read articles by Keith and view photography by Pieter as they make their way to San Francisco. They are excited about sharing their travels and understand the gravity of the current situation on the ground in Haiti. They are collecting money on a per kilometer basis (approx. 10,000 km) or a one time pledge, with the goal of raising as much money and global support as they can in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Within 48 hours, utilizing their existing media contacts, network, and creativity, they were able to assemble a small, but mighty team. They are currently working hard to exhaust their avenues prior to their Panamerican odyssey. The 4Legs4Haiti Team is collaborating with Project Medishare and sponsors to help make a difference. So can you!

They want people from around the world regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference and nationality to take interest, get involved, and participate in this massive effort to show support and solidarity for the Haitian people. This is a new era, one in which interconnectivity and human capital are the greatest bridges and deterrents. The toughest wars to win are the ones that are fought without weapons and malice in the heart.

We appreciate your support and look forward to working with everyone to help make a difference.

With ever-yielding love, our thoughts are with those who have been affected.
